Denise E. Kelly
Vice President of Rehabilitation and Wellness Services
Ms. Kelly has 23 years of healthcare experience, graduated from Boston University with a degree in Occupational Therapy, and received a Masters in Management from Lesley University. Denise has managed at the national level for 8 years. Prior to Five Star Quality Care, she was the Vice President of Rehabilitation for a national skilled nursing chain, and before that, managed regionally for 10 years. Clinically, she has worked in most rehabilitation settings, including rehabilitation hospitals, acute hospitals, private practice and home health. Denise has been with Five Star Quality Care since 2001, and is responsible for the rehabilitation operations of 81 inpatient skilled nursing facilities, 37 freestanding outpatient clinics and supports two inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and their 20 outpatient satellite clinics.

Jeanne M. Boyle
Rehabilitation Operation Manager
Ms. Boyle has 35 years of healthcare experience and has held various executive level positions at a post-acute rehabilitation hospital for over 18 years. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and a Master of Science Degree in Management from Lesley University. Jeanne also holds professional licenses as a Registered Nurse and as a Nursing Home Administrator in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Healthcare Administrators, and she is credentialed as a Resident Assessment Coordinator.

Laura Cronin
Clinical Rehabilitation Manager
Ms. Cronin is an Occupational Therapist with 20+ years of healthcare experience, holding a Master of Science in OT from Tufts University, Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She has managed long-term care therapy services as an Area Rehabilitation Manager of Program Development & Training, Director of Continuous Quality Improvement, Area Manager & Director of Rehabilitation. Laura also served as the Rehabilitation Services Manager & the Director of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation for a Boston area teaching hospital, where she specialized in family medicine, cardiovascular care, oncology, neurology care & orthopedics. Throughout her career, Laura has provided direct care in long-term acute, outpatient rehabilitation, sub-acute, home health, dementia and hospice, among others. Her clinical expertise also includes cognition, dementia/Alzheimer’s, restraint & positioning, balance and falls management. She has been with Five Star Quality Care since February 2008.

Karrie Skarda
Regional Rehabiliation Program Manager
Ms. Skarda is an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field, specializing in geriatrics. She received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Karrie has a plethora of experience with the geriatric population, and her expertise includes the use of the Allen Cognitive Level Assessment to determine competency in the geriatric psychiatric population. She is also certified continence management and low-vision rehabilitation. Throughout her career, she has won various accolades, including Occupational Therapist of the Year from a national rehabilitation company. Karrie joined the Five Star Quality Care’s rehabilitation management team in July 2007, and is responsible for the development and implementation of rehabilitation programs for the outpatient clinics within Assisted and Independent Senior Living communities to enhance wellness and successful aging.

Michael DeStefon
Regional Rehabilitation Director
Mr. DeStefon has 17 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist; he graduated from Temple University. For most of his career, his clinical experience has focused on geriatrics; for the last 7 years, he has focused on the operational management of therapy departments in various long-term care settings. Michael has extensive experience with outpatient clinics in Assisted and Independent Living communities, and his clinical focus is on assisting seniors with aging in place and maintaining the highest level of function at the lowest level of care through therapeutic interventions and programming. Michael is the Regional Rehabilitation Director for our Mid-Atlantic region, and has been with Five Star Quality Care since 2007.

Sue Fleck
Regional Rehabilitation Director
Ms. Fleck is an Occupational Therapist with a total of 25 years’ experience, primarily in geriatrics and long-term care. Sue has been with Five Star Quality Care since January 2003. Clinically, her special interest is promoting maximal function for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Sue has served as a manager in various capacities for much of her career as an OT, and her preference is to focus on education, development and mentoring of employees to continually influence high-quality programs and services for individuals in need of therapy services. Sue is the Regional Rehabilitation Director for the upper Midwest and Southeast regions.

Jennifer Vacek
Regional Rehabilitation Director
Ms. Vacek received her Occupational Therapy degree from Creighton University. She has 12 years of experience in various settings, including 4 years within a hospital system in Omaha, NE. She has also worked in inpatient, outpatient and home care settings. She spent 6 years managing a CORF, and contracted PT, OT, and SLP services to several skilled nursing facilities, school systems and hospitals across various states. She co-developed and managed a medical equipment company during the last 2 years of service at that company. Jennifer joined Five Star Quality Care’s Rehabilitation Management team in March of 2004.

Linda Wheaton
Regional Rehabilitation Director
Ms. Wheaton is an OT with 30+ years of clinical experience in many healthcare settings. She graduated the University of Texas Medical Branch with a Bachelor of Science & Certificate in OT, and received a Master of Arts in Health Services Administration & Human Resources Development from Webster University. Linda also has an active Colorado Nursing Home Administrator license, and spent the last 23 years managing healthcare delivery systems in acute, inpatient, outpatient, home health, sub-acute and long-term care settings. For 14 years, she worked in regional rehabilitation management with responsibilities to coordinate rehabilitation programming and operations in sub-acute skilled nursing, independent & assisted living facilities, and home health agencies for many facilities. She has clinical expertise in Neurological Rehabilitation, Falls Prevention and Balance Treatment, and primarily oversees our Western regions’ rehabilitation. She joined Five Star Quality Care in August of 2003.
